When you have reached the edge of who you have been. This is a threshold. Every significant change begins here.
Threshold Work is the practice of looking at your life honestly enough to change it. It is the examined life made practical. It draws on a lineage that runs back to Socrates, who held that the unexamined life is not worth living, and returns philosophy to what it was in its origins: a way of living, brought into the real decisions of your life.
Alongside this philosophical foundation, Threshold Work draws on psychology to understand why you choose as you do, and how emotions shape those choices. The examination reaches beyond thought, into how you experience yourself and your life.
“
Crossing a threshold is not only about what you leave behind. It is about what opens when you do.
Threshold moments are the crossings between who you have been and who you are not yet, when the old no longer fits and the new has not yet taken shape.
This space is uncertain. What lies on the other side of change remains hidden. But staying as you are also carries a cost, one you feel before you can name it. And the same space is where a life can open in ways you cannot imagine from where you stand.
Crossing it asks for responsibility. Not the claim that we control everything that happens to us, but an invitation to examine the part we can play in how we live.

My work is shaped by a long engagement with philosophy that began with my degree at Columbia University. That foundation was deepened by a PhD in Psychology at the University of Cambridge and a postdoctoral position at Imperial College London. The British Psychological Society has since recognized my contribution to psychology with an Associate Fellowship. Alongside this, I bring a clinical background in existential psychotherapy.
What sustains it all is a contemplative practice and a long-standing conviction that life demands to be lived truthfully, and with joy.
Different points of entry. One direction: a life more fully lived, more deliberately chosen, more truly yours.
Self-directed and structured pathway into the work, at different levels of depth and engagement.

The Paradox of Transformation:
Why We Avoid Transformation
We are drawn toward transformation and away from it at the same time. This video examines that tension.
This series is the foundational inquiry of Threshold Work, the approach I use with clients at threshold moments, offered here in full. Across eight sessions, it maps what real change involves: what has been shaping your choices, what it would mean to live from what matters most to you, where resistance lives, and what becomes possible when the work takes hold.
“
A threshold moment asks something of us: the willingness to step beyond who we have been, and to take responsibility for creating the life we sense is possible.
A map of the territory fundamental change moves through, and where you might be within it now. Not the change that refines the life you have, but the change that reorients it from within.
Developed by Dr. Irem Gunay from her practice and theoretical work.
Living on the surface of your own life. Conditioned ways of thinking and feeling shape your choices, yet remain unseen. They are held in the body as much as in the mind. A narrowness has come to feel normal. Another way of living is not yet in view.
Something surfaces that cannot be ignored. It is felt before it is understood: the body registers it before the mind can explain it. Then comes recognition: what was unseen begins to come into view.
The inner and outer work of change. Facing what has been avoided, and meeting the resistance it stirs. Remaining present in the in-between, as the familiar loosens its hold and the new begins to take shape.
Insight reaches beyond the intellect, and something lifts, in body as well as mind. What matters to you and how you live move as one. Truthful with yourself, choosing deliberately, fully responsible for who you become. A life that felt narrow now feels open.
The Arc is shared, but each stage can take a different shape in each life.
